Sweetly Scented Memories

I love this flower.

When I was going to BYU I would drive up in the hills behind the Provo Temple in the spring and cut lilac blossoms off bushes larger than my car. I would fill vases with different shades of purple. When ever I smell a lilac now I think of that time in my life, my favorite house I lived in there, with my favorite roommates. The energy that the last weeks of school bring. The memories come back to me with one little whiff.

There are other smells that I love. I love the smell of Derek. I remember our wedding day, standing so close to him posing for pictures out side the Los Angeles Temple. I get to remember that day every time I stand close and breath him in. What a wonderful day that was.

I love the smell of baby laundry. I know that it is a scent I will miss one day. Some day all our laundry will smell that same and the baby Dreft will not be needed. Cooper is already old enough for me to move on but I'm just not ready for that one. Maybe when the next jug is empty...

How about coming home from school on a rainy day, walking in the door and knowing there were cookies or popcorn and cocoa waiting for us. Cozy memories.

I wonder what scents my little boys will remember? Will it be fresh cut grass that they helped their daddy mow or the way my hair smells when I hold them tight.

I would love to fill the house with lilacs and start new memories with the sweet blooms. I did today, and I loved walking by, catching a little sniff as I cleared the breakfast dishes and when I played peek a boo with Cooper in the high chair and again when I held Corbin after stubbing is toe.

I love this flower.

Earth Day

I do believe that today is Earth Day. So I thought I would share the one thing I do to help out. I don't always remember to recycle, and I should use the garbage disposal more but, the one little contribution I do make is this....I reuse the little cups that Crystal Light comes in. You know the ones with the foil tops. Don't' laugh...I'm serious. After I make a pitcher, I wash out the little plastic up and save it. They are just the right size to put ketchup in to dip our nuggets, and when Corbin helps me bake I measure the salt and baking soda into one so he can dump it in. I also fill it with syrup so he can pour his own with taking too much. I have even made little servings of jello in them. So there ya go. I know it's not much, but it must help a little right. I would love to know what you re-use.

"Park, Mommy Please"

This is Corbin's preferred manner of dress. Undies only, and that's if we're lucky.
But if he wants to leave the house clothes are mandatory. And this little guy wanted to go to the park very badly. So badly, that he got dressed all by himself.
Hmmmm, Let's take a closer look....

He may be a little wrinkly, and a bit on the small side, (he found them in the basket under his dresser where I throw the clothes he's grown out of) but he got all the basics covered. He was very proud that he did it all by himself. Once we got everything turned around, to the park we went and we had a great time. How could I say no to this kid after he made such a cute effort to get covered up?

It's Official!

Cooper is Ours!
We went to court on Friday April 4th to finalize Cooper's adoption. It was a great morning. Both of our Parents, my Grandparents, Jeff, Erin and Romney were all there with us. After the hearing we went to lunch at Simple Simon's which was a yummy ending to a very sweet morning.
Here are some Photos that Derek's dad took for us that day.
Swearing in
Reviewing the paperwork
The official signatures

Yea! We're done
With the Judge

All the family who could be there
Our happy little boy!
It is such a relief to know that all the court stuff is done. It's hard to explain what it's like to have a child that feels like yours but you know in the back of your mind that something could go wrong, something totally out of your hands, that could take him away. We love this little boy. He is just what we needed in our family. Now, we get to set a sealing date, and he'll be ours forever. We can't wait.

Shhh Hmmm Laaaa

I was thinking about how much of my day is filled with sounds, not words, but sounds. The sound of my alarm wakes me most mornings but today it was the sound of Corbin opening my bedroom door. That is a much nicer way to wake, especially when he has slept in an extra 45 minutes, yipee!

He and Cooper are the makers of most of the noise around here. These are just some of the sounds that filled our house today. (I'll translate)

Ummmm Awfulls = the answer to "what do you want for breakfast", waffles.

Uhh Uhhh Uhhh = Cooper wants more food

Heee Hee ha Aah Hee Hee = Corbin laughing at cartoons

Ehhe Mamama Ehhhe Mamama = Cooper crawling around the house looking for me

MMMwah MMMMwah = Me kissing my little boys every chance I get

RRRRRRR = Corbin is frustrated

Mmmm zzzzzzz Mmmmm zzzzzz = Cooper is humming and chomping on the vibrating teether

Ahhhh, Bang! Ahhhh, Thud! = Corbin in time out, hitting the door ...ops time out counting starts over... poor kid

Ma-ba-da-ma-da-ha = Cooper's constant babbles

Ding Dong... yippee = aah pizza is here

Whoooo Weeeeee= Corbin riding his bike down the driveway to give dad one last kiss before he leaves for work

Creek, swoosh, jingle jingle, pitter patter = ugh Corbin is out of bed again dragging his spider man sleeping bag with him

I love the sounds that fill my life. One of my favorites is the sound of our bedroom door opening. That means Derek is awake! Daddy is here to help. I could sure use his help now, it's almost midnight and Corbin is still awake. Arg!
